PP Patrol

Parent Perimeter Patrol (PPP)

Why?

To help promote a safe environment for our children at recess and lunch time.

What?

PARENT PERIMETER PATROL (PPP):

Parent volunteers will walk around the outside perimeter of the school, on the east side, during morning and lunch recess. Parent Perimeter Patrol will not be directly involved with what goes on in the schoolyard, but will complement the work of the staff. We will be a visible presence, wearing neon vests, and will keep a watchful eye on the perimeter for anything that might be of concern. We will make eye contact and say hello to passers-by – our own version of Block Watch.

When?

Throughout the school year.

Where?

The east outside perimeter of the gravel field - Blenheim, 24th & 25th. The west side is fenced off and closed to the children during the school construction.

How?

Volunteers will sign up for one month or more for a chosen day/shift(s) per week. For example, I might take every Wednesday and Friday (both morning and lunch recess) in May. Or I may take Friday Lunch in October and morning recess on Wednesday & Thursdays in January. I will show-up 5 minutes before my shift to the school office to sign-in and get my vest.

One parent volunteer will be needed per shift to patrol. Or you can patrol with another parent, this could be a great way to catch-up with other Kitchener parents while at the same time ensuring a safe environment for our children and the school community. This could also be an opportunity to socialize, walk your dog and wave to your kids at recess.

Shifts per day:

Recess 10:30 - 10:45 a.m. & Lunch recess 12:30 - 1:00 p.m.

In summary the benefits of PPP:

Peace of mind for parents, especially of young children, that there are additional adults out during recess and lunch keeping an eye on things. Currently there are 3 Supervision Aides during recess and lunch.

Reduce the risk of strangers approaching the school grounds at recess and lunch.

With full-time Kindergarten starting this year, it will be a well received & appreciated program for Kindergarten parents. As well, it is a welcome addition with all the mayhem and excitement at Kitchener during the school construction.

Opportunity to see your children playing with friends at recess and lunch.
